Gourmet Loose Meat Sandwiches:
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds high-quality 80/20 ground beef
- 2 medium onions, finely chopped
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, divided
- 1 teaspoon black pepper, divided
- 1/4 cup beef broth
- 8 slices of American, cheddar, or Swiss cheese (optional)
- 8 hamburger buns, toasted with butter
- Dill pickle slices or chips, for serving
Instructions:
1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and begin breaking it into small, crumbled pieces using a spatula or spoon. Season with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper.
2. When the beef is about halfway cooked, add the finely chopped onions to the skillet.
3. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the beef is fully cooked (no longer pink) and the onions are softened and caramelized, about 10-12 minutes.
4. Drain excess fat if necessary.
5. If the meat mixture seems dry, add the beef broth and stir to combine.
6. Season the mixture with the remaining 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, stirring to distribute the seasonings evenly.
7. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
8. Let the meat mixture rest for 5 minutes before serving.
9. If using cheese, place a slice on the bottom half of each toasted bun and top with the hot loose meat mixture.
10. Serve the sandwiches with dill pickle slices or chips on the side.
Yield: 8 servings
