Gourmet Loose Meat Sandwiches:
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds high-quality 80/20 ground beef
- 2 medium onions, finely chopped
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, divided
- 1 teaspoon black pepper, divided
- 1/4 cup beef broth
- 8 slices of American, cheddar, or Swiss cheese (optional)
- 8 hamburger buns, toasted with butter
- Dill pickle slices or chips, for serving
Instructions:
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and begin breaking it into small, crumbled pieces using a spatula or spoon. Season with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper.
- When the beef is about halfway cooked, add the finely chopped onions to the skillet.
- Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the beef is fully cooked (no longer pink) and the onions are softened and caramelized, about 10-12 minutes.
- Drain excess fat if necessary.
- If the meat mixture seems dry, add the beef broth and stir to combine.
- Season the mixture with the remaining 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, stirring to distribute the seasonings evenly.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Let the meat mixture rest for 5 minutes before serving.
- If using cheese, place a slice on the bottom half of each toasted bun and top with the hot loose meat mixture.
- Serve the sandwiches with dill pickle slices or chips on the side.
