Teriyaki Chicken Recipe

A popular Japanese dish featuring grilled or broiled chicken glazed with a sweet and savory teriyaki sauce.

Ingredients

  • 4-6 Chicken Thighs, boneless and skinless
  • 1/2 cup Soy Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 2 tbsp Mirin (Japanese sweet rice wine)
  • 1/4 cup Sugar
  • 1 clove Garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Fresh Ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp Water (for slurry)
  • Sesame Seeds and Chopped Green Onions for garnish

Directions

  1. Make Teriyaki Sauce: In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, water, mirin, sugar, garlic, and ginger. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water to make a slurry, then add it to the saucepan. Stir until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat.

  2. Prepare Chicken: If grilling, preheat grill to medium-high heat. If broiling, preheat your broiler. Season chicken thighs with salt and pepper.

  3. Cook Chicken: Grill or broil the chicken, turning occasionally, until cooked through - about 6-8 minutes per side. Brush the chicken with teriyaki sauce during the last few minutes of cooking.

  4. Serve: Slice the chicken and serve with extra teriyaki sauce. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
