Hungarian Goulash Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 lbs beef chuck, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 2 onions, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 tbsp Hungarian paprika
- 1 tsp caraway seeds (optional)
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 2 medium potatoes, cubed
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 4 cups beef broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Sour cream for serving (optional)
Instructions:
-
Heat oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add onions and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
-
Add garlic and cook for another minute.
-
Increase heat to medium-high. Add beef cubes and brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
-
Stir in paprika, caraway seeds (if using), and bay leaves. Cook for 1 minute to release the flavors.
-
Add carrots, potatoes, diced tomatoes with their juice, and beef broth. Bring to a boil.
-
Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beef is tender and the vegetables are cooked through.
-
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
-
Serve hot, optionally topped with a dollop of sour cream.
Slow Cooker Method:
Follow steps 1-4 in a skillet, then transfer everything to a slow cooker. Add the remaining ingredients and cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 4-5 hours.
Enjoy your homemade Hungarian Goulash!
