## Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F or 45°C)
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt (room temperature)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Optional: 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
- Optional: Fresh cilantro, chopped
- Butter for brushing
## Instructions
1. **Activate the Yeast**: In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently, then let it sit for 5-10 minutes or until frothy.
2. **Mix Dry Ingredients**: In a large bowl, mix together the flour and salt.
3. **Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients**: Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour along with the yogurt and olive oil. Mix until a soft dough forms.
4. **Knead the Dough**: Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-8 minutes, until it is smooth and elastic.
5. **First Rise**: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
6. **Shape the Naan**: After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal parts. Roll each part into a ball and then flatten it into an oval shape.
7. **Second Rise (Optional)**: Let the shaped naans rest for an additional 15-20 minutes under a damp cloth for a lighter texture.
8. **Cook the Naan**: Heat a skillet (preferably cast iron) over medium-high heat. Once hot, place one naan into the skillet. Cook for about 1-2 minutes, or until bubbles form on the surface. Flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes on the other side. The naan should have golden brown spots.
9. **Add Flavors (Optional)**: If desired, brush the cooked naan with butter and sprinkle with minced garlic and/or chopped cilantro.
10. **Serve Warm**: Serve the naan warm as a side to your favorite dishes.
